WHO ARE WE?

International Energy Crops Limited (IEC) is by far, Europe’s largest miscanthus resource. We supply only young, fresh, vigorous rhizomes and provide a precision planting service in the UK and

across Europe.

Privately owned by the Wilson Farming Group, the business is based in Shropshire where Europe’s largest plantation of miscanthus is located. With the rhizome capacity to plant 20,000 hectares of miscanthus per year and the harvesting capacity of Europe’s largest fleet of forage harvesters, we are unrivalled in delivering a quality miscanthus service to the farming world.

With a long term view of developing precision planted, high yielding miscanthus crops, IEC has the focus, personnel and capacity to fulfil its targets and more importantly exceed our customers’ expectations.

We are "Innovative, Efficient, Fair, Accountable" and are leading the way in miscanthus.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

"To do a proper job once and not half a
job twice"

Miscanthus is like any crop; good farming practice is key to its success. We are determined to make evenly planted, well established miscanthus crops that reach their yield potential, a normal part of our service.

Attention to detail at every step is what will deliver a proper crop of miscanthus. Properly prepared seed beds, only using young fresh vigorous rhizomes, only using a manual precision planter to guarantee evenly spaced rhizomes, excellent agronomy care in the first two years - we do all this.

We strive for excellence.

DELIVERING ON OUR PROMISE

Keith Wilson, Managing Director of IEC says "the results of the 2010 plantings have been fantastic and we are achieving everything we set out to do.

We knew if we were going to make a success  of planting miscanthus and  protect the Wilson reputation, then we had to do things far better & totally differently to what previous companies had done in the past. We knew we must;

  • Bring good farming practise to miscanthus

  • Use only young, fresh, vigorous rhizomes.

  • Ensure properly prepared seedbeds.

  • Precision plant to ensure even spacings

Quality workmanship and the Wilson motto of

'doing a proper job once not half a job twice’

have driven us to establishing brilliant looking crops on all soil types. Probably the best crop we have established is on the heaviest clay I have ever seen, but because we did everything right, a perfect crop is now growing on very difficult soil.

The evenly spaced rhizomes and good soil to rhizome contact achieved by our manual planters is absolutely the only way to plant miscanthus and achieve maximum yields.

Since starting IEC in November 2009 with the goal of establishing miscanthus properly, it has been challenging but massively exciting. Building our own rhizome harvesters, processing machinery and precision planters in just 4 months and then planting in 4 different European countries as well as the UK has been a huge success. We have proved to the farming industry that properly planted miscanthus can compete with most crops on any soils and will certainly complement any farming business.

Now, our 2011 plantings have delivered further proof. A year’s experience, complete redesign of our planters and excellent rhizome quality means that we are even more excited about our delivery this year. Importantly too, we have some very satisfied growers who have seen how professionally our plantings have been carried out. We would welcome and encourage anyone who is interested in miscanthus to come and have a look at our work.
